Why You Shouldn’t Microwave Plastic

Life Without A Microwave

One of my first moves in becoming a true Holistic A-Hole was to rid my life of my microwave.

This was 6 years ago and I haven’t looked back.

Before this transformational moment I couldn’t imagine my life without a microwave.

The microwave was as much apart of my young life as a pair of dirty basketball shoes or sleeveless shirts.

Very few things I ate didn’t see the inside of a microwave.

Pizza, leftover spaghetti, popcorn, frozen dinners all kept me well fed and undernourished.

And all needed less than 2 minutes to make thanks to my handy 20th century miracle kitchen appliance.

A lot of times, I’d take leftovers and put them in the microwave along with the plastic container I kept them in.

The thought of this being a problem never crossed my mind. I was just hungry and the shortest path between the food and my belly was the microwave.

Taking the food out of the plastic and putting it on a plate or a glass bowl seemed like a waste of time.

Little did I know that the plastic I was heating was literally driving me crazy.

Added Toxic Ingredients

Any time you subject plastic to heat there will be melting and leaching.

I remember countless work lunches, heating up a Lean Cuisine thinking I was doing something good for my body.

Sure, there was less than 300 calories in that fettucini alfredo and guaranteed 6-pack abs.

But thanks to the small tray the food was in, I was unknowingly dosing myself with a helping of toxic chemicals.

Let’s not forget the plastic wrap that I was supposed to cut holes in to form a state of the art ventilation system… to give it that authentic Italian kitchen touch.

Every day, unknowingly, my $2 lunch included an extra helping of xenobiotic chemicals.

Meet The Chemicals

The most written about plastic chemical in circulation today is bisphenol A, aka BPA.

The purpose of BPA is to harden the plastics.

BPA is a xenoestrogen that exhibits estrogen-mimicking properties.

Xenoestrogens can be problematic for men and women.

For men, they have been tied to testicular cancer and reproductive problems.

In women, they can be attributed to breast cancer, PCOS, miscarriages and thyroid disorders.

Plastics will also give you a dose of Phthalates which are used to make the plastics more flexible.

Phthalates lead to testosterone problems and have been tied to male penis problems, allergies and eczema.

BPA-Free Plastic

But of course industry has your back and wants you to feel safe.

This is why they ditched the BPA (which makes you wonder why it was in there in the first place).

Now you can buy BPA-free plastics made from acrylic, polystyrene, polyethersulfone, and Tritan™.

Well, at least those chemicals are safe and aren’t used in infant products.
Oh, wait… Turns out those BPA-free chemicals also exhibit estrogen activity and are found in infant products.

There are however other BPA-free ingredients that don’t leach estrogen activity inducing chemicals.

These include glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate, cyclic olefin polymer or co-polymer resins.

If you are purchasing any plastics, especially for your baby, make sure they include the more harmless ones.

Consequences In The Body

Sure these leaching plastics wont kill you on the spot.

They are making a gradual withdraw from your overall health status.

You want to do everything you can to protect your hormones and organs.

Hormonal health can be visceral and when it’s not working right you can feel the disturbance.

Especially in your mental health.

Why do you feel so overly emotional? Does life feel too stressful sometimes? Do you have a hard time just feeling happy?

This roller coaster of emotions is a reflection of the dysregulation in your hormones.

If you’re doing everything you can to live and eat healthily but still feel like a wreck, maybe your problem is simply the container your healthy food is in.

Before you nuke that kale burrito, be responsible and put it on a plate and hit the popcorn button.

Avoid Carbs In The Morning

Carbs In The Morning

As a dude who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s I was witness to countless television commercials telling me that (enter sugary cereal) was part of a complete breakfast.

Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast with a pad of butter, yogurt with berries, bananas, orange juice, tea, and oh ya.. the fucking cereal the ad was for in the first place!

I still remember looking at those images of the complete breakfast and thinking, “who eats that?”

I couldn’t even imagine some kid somewhere eating a meal fit for a king within an hour of waking up.

For me, breakfast was nothing more than a bowl of that sugary cereal with some cow jizz, pasteurized milk.

Even back then I was enough of a little A-hole to know that something wasn’t right with that much food first thing in the morning.

Now that I’m a fully-grown A-Hole I cringe at the thought that someone ate like that.

But for me it’s not the amount of food that makes me uncomfortable, but the amount of sugar and carbs.


While I have many critiques of carbs, including the blanket label of carbs, they do have their place.

I don’t believe that carbs are neccessarily the problem in the SAD American diet.

But the wrong types of carbs certainly are.
There are plenty of carbs that are harmful to your health.

Breads, pastas, cakes, candy, and pastries are all terrible.

But other carbs like fruits, starchy vegetables, and legumes definitely have their place in a healthy diet.

When people get fanatical about this low carb craze, they throw the fiber and vitamin-rich baby out with the sugary bath water.

Cut out your daily bagel, but don’t avoid oranges.
Stiff arm the office birthday cake, but definitely add in sweet potatoes.

But no matter what you do with your carbs, even if you go with the healthy ones, avoid them first thing in the morning.

Carbs And Cortisol

The morning is no doubt the worst time to put any type of carbohydrate in your body.

The main reason is because first thing in the morning is when your body is making the most amount of cortisol.

The term “cortisol” is hot right now because everyone knows it as the stress hormone.

That is very true.

We should all be trying to lower our stress as it is the number one cause of chronic disease.

The problem with a blanket demonization of cortisol is that it’s not all bad.

Cortisol Our Protector

Cortisol has a purpose in your body.. that’s why it’s there.

Side note- most functions in your body, be they good or bad, are there for a reason. This includes all the organs your doctor wants to cut out of you. Your appendix, gallbladder, tonsils, all serve a very specific purpose.

Cortisol is no different.

It’s an ancient mechanism that took millions to evolve for survival purposes.

When we were savage cave-bros out there in the wild cortisol is what helped us run from predators.

Our eyes would identify danger, send a signal to our hypothalamus, who sent a signal to the pituitary gland which sent a hormone called ACTH to our adrenal glands that shit was about to get real!

The adrenal glands would get the ACTH and know that it was now time to pump cortisol into the blood stream.

Cortisol made our body’s autonomic nervous system switch from parasympathetic to sympathetic.

It’s like an alarm that tells your body, “wake up bitch! We gotta survive!”

It’s in this sympathetic nervous that our instincts take over and we become survivors.

In this example, savage cave-bro would make a split second decision.

I’m either gonna run from this lion, or I’m going to punch it right in the face.

Morning Cortisol

The other important thing to know about cortisol is that it’s highest in the morning.

The beauty of cortisol is that evolved to coincide with our body’s circadian rhythm.

Somehow, our brains realized that we need to be ready to survive the most first thing in the morning.

We need to get up, find food and start the day.

So cortisol comes in like your roommate’s annoying alarm clock and gets you up and ready to survive.

Then throughout the day it gradually lowers so that come night time it’s the lowest so you can fall asleep.

What Cortisol Does In Your Body

The biological purpose of cortisol is to make glucose available in your body.

Cortisol frees up stored glycogen in your liver and gets it into the blood stream.

Once glucose is in your blood stream, your pancreas secretes insulin to get it into your cells.

Glucose is basically sugar.

Glucose is the most fast-acting form of nutrition our cells use to make ATP.. which is a fancy way of saying energy.

This would make sense since you’re about to drop kick a lion, you need something that gives you an immediate jolt.

Cortisol And Breakfast

Nowadays, unless you’re living in one of the few hunter-gatherer tribes in the world… and if you are thank you for somehow connecting to the internet to read this… you’re not using cortisol to submit an AM predator.

The problem is that it’s still there in the morning.. and it’s going to effect how your body metabolizes the food you eat for breakfast.

If you eat carbs in the morning, even the good ones, you’re adding an extra burden of glucose to your body.

Remember how cortisol is making glucose available anyways?

It does this to put glucose back into your blood after insulin has come and cleared it out of your blood.

You always have about a teaspoon of glucose in your blood which is your fasting blood glucose.

Some people have more and some people have less. The more you have the more at risk for diabetes you are.

Because cortisol is highest in the morning, you will get a higher dose of glucose in your blood after you eat a carb-rich breakfast.

This is where the problems come in.

Your muscle cells and liver have reached their capacity to store the glucose from the food you ate.

The excess glucose is sent to the liver where it’s turned into triglycerides and then stored as fat.

This happens in conjunction with your muscle cells resisting the insulin and glucose like you pretending to not be home when Jehovah Witnesses knock on your door.

In other words, you’ve created insulin resistance and now more easily stor the glucose in your blood as fat.

And because cortisol is most powerful in the morning, sugar and carbs for breakfast will create fat and insulin resistance more than any other meal.

What To Eat For Breakfast

On top of all the other problems with the SAD American diet, it’s become normal to eat carbs for breakfast.

And by carbs I mean, the most sugary, starchy, addicting foods available.

Sugary cereals, croissants, donuts, bagels, muffins, Gogurt, granola, toast, waffles, pancakes, french toast.. my blood sugar is crashing just thinking about these treats.

If you want to lose weight your best bet is to avoid each of the above items first thing in the day.

Especially if your diabetic or pre-diabetic.

Instead, opt for high fat and protein.

This will help you stabilize your cortisol and blood sugar.

Protein shakes are my personal number one go-to.

Add a scoop of whey or veggie protein to water with some coconut oil or even grass-fed butter.

Spice it up with other ingredients of your choosing.

Add veggies, nuts, seeds, maca powder, spirulina.. you can really be as creative as you’d like.

Even adding a little fruit is ok, but keep it minimal. A handful of berries, a half banana, a tiny slice of papaya won’t do a lot of damage and can give you plenty of good nutrition.

Eggs and bacon are great. Just make sure they meet all the hippie-dippy standards of pasture raised and nitrite free. Sustainable, well-raised food is always better and create less toxicity in your body.

Plain yogurt with some protein powder mixed in is good too.

No matter what you choose make sure it is free from sugar and processed ingredients.

Feel Better Throughout The Day

Avoiding sugar and stabilizing cortisol in the morning will not only help you feel better in the morning, but even throughout the day.

Cortisol is a hormone. So is insulin.

Along with their physical implications, they also affect your mental health.

Those feelings of depression and anxiety can be supercharged with cortisol dysregulation.

By using fat and protein in the morning, you can stabilize those hormones and your emotions.

When your blood sugar goes on a cortisol roller coaster so does your brain..

Take control of your mind and your body by simply staying away from carbs in the morning.

Even if they part of the SAD American diet’s complete breakfast.

NYC Vaccination Mandate

The mayor and health commissioner of NYC are forcing vaccinations on people who live in Brooklyn.

They say if you choose not to get vaccinated you are subject to a $1000 fine.

I can’t believe this is a thing that is not only happening, but many people actually support.

How is $1000 a reasonable fine for people living in the most free, prosperous nation in the world?

How is any fine for choosing to not vaccinate reasonable?

Where are all the people who were yelling fascist and nazi at other people for wearing a dumb red hat?

A $1000 fine for not putting a needle filled with poison in your arm is the most fascist thing I’ve seen in my lifetime.

I can only wonder what happens if you choose not to pay that fine.

Do they put you in jail with other anti-vaxxers?

Or do you go to jail and then infect all the prisoners? Isn’t that a human rights issue too?

What happened to living in a country where people have the right to choose what they put in their body?

People will stand on street corners yelling at passerby’s to support a women’s right to choose.

People will defend the right to choose what they can and can’t say.

How is the right to choose whether or not to put a potentially harmful substance in their body any different?

I don’t know where people get the idea that vaccinations are this great savior of health.

It’s misguided and wrong.

Knowing what I know, I’d rather let my child get the measles, then poison them with aluminum and mercury.

However, the second you refuse to bow down to the great temple of American pharma you’re labeled an anti-vaxxer, the “N” word for anyone who makes the mistake of educating themselves on vaccine efficacy and production.

If you are someone who has ever called someone an anti-vaxxer, than I can only assume you don’t know the science.

Or the science you do know has been funded by the makers of the vaccinations themselves.

How did we become so disconnected to our human ability to fight non-lethal disease?

Let’s be clear, the measles is not deadly.

This is not to say that people haven’t died from measles.

But statistically speaking, more people have died falling out of their beds than from the measles.

More people have died from lightning strikes than from the measles. More people have died from the chemicals in the measles vaccine than from the measles itself.

If you choose to get the measles vaccine, or have it given to your kids I support your right to do that.

If I choose not to get vaccinated, I am not a threat to you or your vaccinated family.

That’s the point of the vaccine right?

If you’re vaccinated than me being unvaccinated shouldn’t be a threat.

Or is the measles shot like the flu shot where it only works sometimes?

According to many studies complications from measles are due to vitamin A deficiencies.

This points to an issue of malnutrition more than anything else.

If you are deficient in vitamin A than your body isn’t able to do many of it’s most important processes.

These processes include supporting cellular function, detoxification, respiration, among many other things.

If your body can’t do these things then you are creating an environment for disease to thrive.

But how can people in America experience malnutrition?

Have you seen the American diet?

The standard American’s diet has the nutritional fortitude of a slab of cardboard.

Eating a pizza box with cheese still caked on the inside would provide more nutrition than what most American families are eating.

But, this is New York City.

We have a mayor who would rather play politics than actually dig into real solutions.

He’s promised free healthcare for everyone in the city, despite no plans to actually pay for it.

He agreed to bring Amazon and thousands of jobs to the city and then cowered to the democratic socialists when he found out they didn’t like this.

Using context and education is difficult for mayor Bill De Blasio’s administration, so why would understanding public health issues be any different.

It’s easier to tax and fine people than to educate yourself on how the immune system works.

Just stuff a virus with metals and chemicals into a person’s body and if they choose they don’t want it than make them pay.. a lot.

There is one silver lining though.

Mass vaccinations will cause a lot of people to experience health problems.

As a nutritionist, De Blasio has actually created a lot of opportunity for me.

I’m happy to help coach people suffering from chronic disease, exacerbated by vaccinations.

So this administration has created at least one new job!

Why You Should Rethink Your Calcium Supplements

If there’s one supplement to quit taking its definitely calcium. The story of calcium is mostly fake news.

Do we need calcium? Absolutely.

The number one misunderstanding about taking calcium is that we need to take more of it.

The problems w. Calcium in your body come from the mobility not the amount.

Adding more calcium doesn’t make your bones stronger.

There’s only so much calcium that can be retained by the bone.

Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) regulates the balance of calcium in your bones and in your blood.

PTH is affected by the PH of your blood. Are you alkaline or acidic? Many factors affect your blood PH but the biggest is diet.

If you’re eating a well balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables than you’re probably getting enough calcium.

Even a little dairy like whole fat milk, cheese, and butter can give you enough calcium.

When you have too much calcium, like more than your body needs, than the excess ends up in your blood. This excess calcium causes inflammation.

If your taking calcium supplements and are dealing with inflammation, pain, depression, etc than you may have too much calcium.

Too much calcium ends up in your arteries, lungs, gut, kidneys, and in your brain.

For those of you who are wondering, “what’s wrong with that?”, than this is gonna be a huge spoiler alert… but calcium isn’t supposed to be in any of those places.

If you have high serum calcium you are on track for a cardiac event.

This is why coronary artery calcium is one of the biggest indicators of heart attacks.

Your heart uses calcium to force contractions, but too much stymies the whole process.

A lot of it will end up in your kidneys and you’ll just piss it out. There is no bigger checking account to urine pipeline than calcium supplements.

When put to the test, calcium supplements don’t even keep little old ladies from breaking their hips. In fact, more studies show increased hip fractures with calcium supplementation than with no supplementation.

If you’re concerned about your calcium or bone health I’d recommend Magnesium.

Magnesium is a calcium antagonizer and will help balance the calcium to the right ratios.

It works well with PTH to shuttle the right amount of calcium between your bones and blood.

If your doctor has you on calcium then ask them about this.

If you have weak bones and are taking calcium supplements than it’s not a bad idea to switch to magnesium or end up like the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” lady.

High Protein And B-Vitamins

If you eat a high protein diet than you need to make sure you’re also taking B-vitamins. The metabolism of protein, esp animal protein, can result in elevated levels of homocysteine. While people are looking at cholesterol as the cause of heart disease, homocysteine lurks in the shadows leaving plaque in your arteries, leading to Alzheimer’s, stroke, and heart disease. Methylated B-vitamins help to eliminate homocysteine out of your body. If your eating high protein make sure you’re adding the methylated versions of B-Vitamins.. specifically: B-12 (methylcobalamin), B-6 (Pyridoxal phosphate P5P), and folate.

Wedding Weight Loss Tips

Planning a wedding takes an insane amount of effort.

It takes so much planning, prep, and stress that I’m actually shocked that people still have weddings.

There’s so much to worry about.

  • The Venue
  • Catering
  • Guests
  • The DJ
  • Photographer

That last one is the one that gives brides and some grooms the most anxiety because that is the one vendor whose influence will be felt long past the big day.

And this is why so many gyms offer boot camp and spin classes..

Losing Weight For The Big Day

There’s a lot of pressure to have the perfect wedding which makes losing weight for your big day even harder.

Along with all the other stuff you have to plan you’re now forcing yourself to lose an unfathomable amount of weight in an unreasonable amount of time.

This leads to a huge imbalance in your body.

On the one hand, you’re motivated like never before to shed excess pounds and get back down to your 11th-grade cheerleading weight.

On the other hand, you’re cramming a lot of To-Dos into a short amount of time.

Not to mention each To-Do has to be absolutely perfect. The venue has to be the right size with the right decor with the right lighting. The DJ has to play the right songs at the right times and make the right announcements without mispronouncing anyone’s names.

And oh ya, the cake has to be the illest cake known to man.

How do you even squeeze a workout into this melee?

Not to mention, if you’re trying to lose weight, do you even get to try the cake?

There’s no doubt that losing weight for your wedding can be a challenge amongst many bigger challenges.

Lucky for you I have some tips to help you slim down in a short amount of time without resorting to starvation.

Lose Weight Without Trying To Lose Weight

Remember how easy life used to be before you started trying to lose weight?

You look back on old pictures and get angry that you were once a completely different, more acceptable shape, and you didn’t even realize how lucky you were!

As you get older your metabolism changes, it slows down, yadda yadda you’ve heard it before.

One of the most effective ways to lose weight is to not try to lose weight. Do it effortlessly.

Wait, What?

The biggest problem with people’s obsession with weight loss is that they’re focusing on the wrong thing.

Weight isn’t the problem, it’s a symptom of even bigger problems in the body.

These problems are usually foundational and once addressed can bring down not just your weight, but improve sleep, help focus and concentration, improve mood, improve immunity, and generally just help you feel better.

Keep in mind that not every skinny person is healthy and happy. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that many skinny people are absolutely miserable and dealing with plenty of their own issues.

Just understanding this should help you to stop equating weight to health.

Losing Weight Is Easy

Anyone can lose weight at any time. Here’s how you do it? Stop eating.

That’s right, just don’t eat.

Fast, starve, they will both make your body burn all its fat reserves and you’ll get down to your goal weight in no time.

Realistically that’s not going to happen, nor would I ever tell someone to do something as crazy as not eating to lose weight.

So if not eating is not a good way to lose weight, why are we still telling people to count calories?

This is an archaic way of thinking that became popular sometime in the late 20th century and has never left.

You can also correlate this time to about the same time obesity rates began to climb.

Does this make sense?

It does once you understand not to focus on calories in, calories out as a means to losing weight.

Calories And Weight Loss

A calorie is a unit of energy.

You need calories for your body to function and ultimately to survive.

Amongst all the daily functions of your body includes the function of burning stored adipose tissue.

Adipose tissue is the thing separating you from that perfect sunset photo that will be your profile pic for the next 3 years.

Calorie restriction will not burn adipose tissue. In fact, calorie restriction can make it worse.

When you restrict calories what you’re really telling your body is that you’re in a crisis and you need to hold onto all the fat you have because you don’t know if more food is coming.

Your body is literally holding onto fat to power it’s most vital functions.

Especially if you’re eating starch and carbohydrates, your body is going to store that as fat for the coming day of reckoning.

Low Calorie, High Fail

As you stress your body out in a calorie deficit there are big problems brewing below the surface.

Stress induces the release of cortisol from your adrenal glands.
Cortisol is a storage hormone, and it’s going to utilize most of the nutrients (or lack thereof) coming into your body.

All the protein you eat because you heard someone say eat more protein gets used to make cortisol and not the other hormones you need to be at your best.

Excess cortisol will literally drive you crazy.. Not to mention everyone around you.

Enter Bridezilla

The most sure-fire way to trigger excess cortisol production is through sugar and carbohydrate consumption.

Unfortunately, most low-calorie diets are laden with high carbohydrates and low on fats.

Fats have twice the calories that carbs do and have been demonized for years as the reason people are fat.

It’s safe to assume the keto and carnivore diets have disproven this theory with all the annoying Instagram before and after pics.

However, I’m not advocating for either of these diets.

Low-calorie diets also keep you constantly hungry.

Then when you do eat, it’s something high in carbohydrates, which burn fast and leave you feeling hungry soon after eating.

You ever crush a pint of Ben and Jerry’s 30 minutes before bed after a day of green juice and lean cuisines?

You can thank sugar, insulin, low calories and cortisol.

Lose Weight For Your Wedding And Beyond

The first thing you want to do to lose weight for your wedding is to not procrastinate.

Don’t wait for a month before your wedding to decide to get your butt in gear.

Do it just after the proposal. I’m talking knee in the dirt, ring box open, ring on finger, burpees.

In all reality you don’t want to rush your weight loss because that’s not healthy at all, you’ll be miserable and it just won’t work.

For those of you who are down to put in the work here are some tips:

Trash All Processed Food

Anything in a box that has an expiration date past a week from now needs to go.

The chemicals, the sugar, and the sodium are holding you back from ever reaching any fitness goals.

Get A Few Colonics Or Enemas

You need excess weight to get out of you any way you can.

You can sweat it out through exercise or heat exposure.

You can also do your body wonders by opening up your digestive elimination pathway (ie your pooper) so that the food you do eat can be broken down and eliminated from your body.

This will also help get rid of toxins that are stored in the fat and mess with your metabolism.

Genetic Testing

Here’s where you start to ignore every Instagram Post that shows a sexy, hot, body person telling you that the only way to lose weight is with the _______ diet.

Your body is individual and works in a very specific way.

You need to know how your body reacts to certain foods and exercises.

While some people do great with saturated fat, some people are not built well for saturated fat.

Some people thrive with high-intensity interval training, and some people are optimized for longer sets, lower weight.

Don’t buy the BS that whatever your friend did will work for you. Get a 23 and Me and know for sure.

You’ll also find out cool things like how your body does or doesn’t methylate, what vitamins and minerals are best for you and if you’re more susceptible to bug bites.

Remember bug bites add weight too.

Add More Fat

As you transition to a more whole-food diet you’ll notice your body start to work better.

You’ll be taking in a lot of nutrition, but that nutrition doesn’t work the same across the board.

There are 4 vitamins that actually need fat to be fully metabolized in the body.

These vitamins are A, D, E, K.

These vitamins do amazing things in your body like boost your immune system, improve liver function, improve adrenal and pancreatic function, build bones and muscle, and that barely scratches the surface.

Many people are low in these vitamins because they’ve followed a low-fat diet for so long.

The other thing you get from fat is more satiation. The worst part about dieting is that constant feeling of being hungry.

Fat is twice as calorically dense as carbs and protein.

Add to the fact that you will get more vitamin absorption, mineral assistance, and better digestion and fat will help to keep you fuller longer.

Workout 4x Per Week

This is your wedding.

The photos will last forever.

Use the 23 and Me data to figure out what your best workouts are.

If it’s High-Intensity Interval Training, join a CrossFit gym and watch your body transform in a matter of weeks.

If you’re the higher endurance type than get on a treadmill and run.

Either way, working out is a given in any weight loss program.

The photos will last forever.

Drink More Water

Water is the most deficient nutrient in the western diet.

Your body is 70% water.

It keeps your joints and muscles lubricated, it keeps your blood and lymph flowing, and it keeps your lips from turning white and chalky.

The photos last forever.

Not to mention water is absolutely essential in every metabolic process your body performs.

It also helps to flush out toxins.

If you’re not drinking water, your body isn’t working. That’s really the long and short of it.

Optimal water intake varies from person to person, but a good rule of thumb is to divide your body weight by 2 and drink that amount in ounces of water every day.

Quit All Sugary Drinks

Be sure to nip it anywhere you can.

This also includes alcohol.

Alcohol is made from sugar, including beer, which is made from grains which your body recognizes as sugar.

If you’re dedicated and find yourself out and you need a drink, club soda with lime is a good choice.

However, the phosphoric acid in club soda can mess with your body’s autonomic nervous system and keep you from losing weight. So you don’t want to drink too much bubbly water. A few here and there is ok.

How does one have the flu and not have the flu?

The Flu

Flu season is as guaranteed to happen as death and taxes.

I can’t remember a time when there wasn’t a flu season.

The flu season typically goes from October to May and peaks between December-February.

I think most people forget that during this time of year there are other diseases still doing their disease thing.

Most other airborne diseases like the Measles, Mumps, and Chicken Pox are more distinct and once your immune system makes contact, as in a vaccine or prior exposure, you’re in the clear.

But the flu is fairly vague and although you have “flu-like” symptoms, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have the flu.

Flu Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Muscle and Body aches
  • Chills
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue

You can ask your doctor to test you for the flu, but the tests themselves can be deceiving.

There are several your doctor can perform including a rapid molecular assay or a rapid influenza diagnostic test. Both of these tests can get you results in less than 20 minutes but have been noted for their inaccuracies.

These flu tests are guilty of both false-positive and false-negative diagnoses in upwards of 50-70% of cases. (3)

These misdiagnoses are so common that many times doctors opt not even to use them.

While this saves the patient and their insurance some money, the doctor will still just treat the symptoms.

Treatments can include Advil and Tylenol for body aches, nasal decongestants, sore throat relievers, steroids or antibiotics.

Be mindful of the ingredients that go into whatever medication your taking.

Chemicals like acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol can damage the detox capabilities of your liver

The doctor will also probably advise you stay home, rest, drink lots of fluids, and get lots of vitamin C.

Coincidentally, this is also how you treat adrenal fatigue. Funny how that works.

What Is Adrenal Fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue, also referred to as non-Addison’s Hypoadrenia is a deficiency in the functioning of the adrenal glands.

This is the best way to describe a medical condition that the medical industry refuses to acknowledge.

Hypoadrenia happens when your adrenals don’t produce enough cortisol or other adrenal hormones like epinephrine, norepinephrine, and aldosterone.

These hormones aid your body’s day to day functions.

Many of these hormones help keep your body in homeostasis through blood sugar regulation, detoxification, and immune response.


  • Extreme fatigue
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Allergies
  • Arthritic pain
  • Decreased immunity
  • Premenstrual tension and menopause difficulty (Women)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Memory lapses
  • Sleep problems

Most medical professionals work according to binary biomarkers. You’re either A or your B.

You either have Addison’s hypoadrenia or you’re just tired.

Point being, if you don’t have Addison’s Hypoadrenia than you will not be treated for adrenal fatigue.

Addison’s Disease

Addison’s disease, aka hypoadrenocorticism, aka hypoadrenia is the most severe form of adrenal insufficiency.

The Mayo Clinic defines Addison’s as:
“Addison’s disease, also called adrenal insufficiency, is an uncommon disorder that occurs when your body doesn’t produce enough of certain hormones. In Addison’s disease, your adrenal glands, located just above your kidneys, produce too little cortisol and, often, too little aldosterone.” (1)

While Addison’s can be described as EXTREME Adrenal Fatigue, most of the time it’s actually caused by autoimmunity.

In this case, you would treat Addison’s differently than typical Adrenal fatigue as you would want to focus more on treating the immune system than treating the adrenals.

This would include more of a focus on gut health than adrenal health. Although good gut health can support good adrenal function.

Symptoms of Addison’s Disease:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Weight Loss
  • Decreased Appetite
  • Low Blood Pressure, fainting
  • Low blood sugar
  • Irritability
  • Joint Pain
  • Depression

It’s even possible to specifically diagnose Addison’s.

A doctor can run a number of tests to determine whether or not you have the biomarkers for Addison’s.

These tests include a blood test to measure your blood levels of sodium, potassium, cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Blood testing can also measure your level of antibodies pertaining to Addison’s as autoimmunity.

You can do an ACTH test specifically to measure how much cortisol is in your blood once your adrenals are stimulated with ACTH.

Both of these modes of testing will give you a reading on how vital your adrenals are.

But you either have Addison’s or you don’t.

If you don’t, your doctor will not then treat you for Adrenal Fatigue.

They may even tell you it’s the flu!

Is Adrenal Fatigue Common?

Maybe you noticed in the Mayo Clinic’s definition of Addison’s Disease that the word “uncommon” came up in regards to adrenal insufficiency.

Addison’s could be considered uncommon since it only appears in 1/100,000 people.

However, adrenal insufficiency is VERY common.

I would guess that most people living any form of a western lifestyle are experiencing a form of adrenal insufficiency.

Between daily stress and a highly processed-food-centric diet, most people’s adrenals are most likely overburdened.

Remember too that stress itself comes in many different forms whether physical or emotional.

Stresses include:

  • Money and debt
  • Relationships
  • Health
  • Social Media
  • Career
  • Toxic air/water/food

While these are not immediate emergencies, they are little stresses that add up throughout the day and force your adrenal glands to produce cortisol.

Overproduction of cortisol can lead to adrenal insufficiency.


Your adrenals can only work to secrete so much cortisol. At some point, they need a break, like any other organ in your body.

Think if you had to do 1000 pushups every day just to feel normal.

Eventually, your chest, shoulders, and triceps would give out and you couldn’t do any more pushups.

The adrenal glands only have so much effort they can exert to match your cortisol needs.

And then they start to crash.

If you’re stressing emotionally, physically, and/or eating a crap diet, your adrenal glands will start to give out.

Cortisol is what is getting you out of bed, and keeping you alert.

It’s also what boosts your immune system when your immunity is weak.

It steps in when you’re hungry and hypoglycemic.

It charges you up when you read some bulls-t on social media.

In every one of these instances, your adrenals are exerting effort and working towards failure.

Is Adrenal Fatigue Real?

Although not an official medical diagnosis, adrenal fatigue is absolutely real.

The adrenals are real glands located on top of your kidneys that produce real hormones like cortisol, epinephrine, and aldosterone.

Adrenals are controlled through the HPA axis.

The hypothalamus directs the anterior pituitary through Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) when it senses stress through the central nervous system or low blood glucose. (5)

The pituitary gland will then deliver adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) to the adrenal glands to secrete whatever hormone is necessary for the body at that time.

These hormones are what give us life and are influential to how we feel throughout the day.

The hypothalamus acts as a thermostat throughout the day and night to regulate the body’s hormonal release.

The adrenals are like any other organ or muscle in the body. It can wear down over time due to overuse.

Just like an overactive pancreas and insulin receptors can lead to insulin resistance, so to can an overactive adrenal gland fail to produce adequate amounts of life-sustaining hormones.


The worst part about discussing a serious medical condition that the medical industry refuses to acknowledge is seeing it be manipulated into other conditions.

For example, if you go to your doctor complaining about fatigue, body weakness, irritability, and blood sugar swings they may diagnose you with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome or Cushing’s Syndrome.

They may send you for more tests for hypothyroidism, polymyalgia rheumatica, or ankylosing spondylitis. All of which can be expensive, time consuming, and totally unnecessary.

These conditions cause patients a lot of confusion and worry which can make adrenal fatigue even worse.

Not to mention, the one disease that is most closely related to adrenal fatigue, Addison’s disease, has much more stringent diagnosing criteria because it can be autoimmune.

Your adrenal hypofunction has to be so severe that by the time you get diagnosed with Addison’s it could be too late. (6)

Bottom line: When you have adrenal fatigue, you will feel sick, ill, and tired… kind of like the flu.

Adrenals Help Boost The Immune System

When it comes to your boosting immune system, it’s important to be mindful of your adrenal glands.

The production of cortisol has a direct correlation to the production of white blood cells. (7)

The more cortisol secreted, the more leukocytes and white blood cells are produced.

This shows that your body relies on the proper adrenal function to support the immune system. (9)

If you’re adrenals are not able to keep up with the demands of an overburdoned immune system, than you would most likely start to feel sick.

Glucocorticoids, whether produced from the adrenal glands or given synthetically has anti-inflammatory effects. (8)

On the other hand, sugar and other sweeteners tends to weaken the immune system. (10)

Sugar also weakens the adrenals by over producing cortisol to support hypoglycemia and by utilizing the same nutrients in metabolism the adrenals need to function properly.

How To Recover From Adrenal Fatigue

Recovering from adrenal fatigue is not easy and it’s not immediate.

You must have patience when it comes to dealing with the adrenals.

Keeping yourself in a calm, meditative, parasympathetic state is really the only way to fully recover from adrenal fatigue.

This can last weeks, months, and for a lot of people even years.

One of the biggest challenges of recovering from adrenal fatigue is to not stress that you have adrenal fatigue.

This stress of imperfection piles onto the other stresses and makes recovery more difficult.

Once you’re fully committed to recovery, you will notice small changes over time like improved sleep, weight loss, less getting sick, and improvements in the skin.

To aid in your recovery I recommend a focus on sleep, diet, supplements, and movement.

Sleep To Heal Adrenals

While everyone’s sleep requirements are different and bioindividual, a good starting point is to aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night.

Do everything you have to do to make this happen. Keep your room dark and cool, turn off all your screens at least 30 minutes before going to bed.

Also, try to have a set bedtime.

The adrenal glands work with our circadian rhythm so the more you can program yourself to fall asleep at the same time every night, the better your sleep will be.

Being outside without sunglasses during the daytime also helps your circadian rhythm.

Adrenal Fatigue Diet

Diet and supplementation will be where you get your biggest adrenal boosts.

The health of your adrenals will be a reflection on your overall health and well being.

If you eat garbage, especially processed food and refined sugar, than your adrenals will secrete more cortisol.

These foods not only put more stress on the body but also utilize all the nutrients that go into feeding the adrenal glands.

Food To Heal Adrenals

Adrenal friendly food will be anything low in sugar, grains, and starch.

Each of these will spike your insulin and make a call to the adrenals to secrete cortisol.

You want the foods you eat to be as low on the glycemic index as possible.

Donate your boxed cereals, 7-grain bread, whole wheat pasta and brown rice to the break room.

You’re going to want to avoid these and other processed, high glycemic foods as much as possible.

The only way to heal your adrenals is to keep them from working. Let them go on vacation, and train them to be there only for real stress.

Eating food should be a calming, nourishing experience, not a 4-alarm emergency.

As far as macronutrients go, fat and protein are your friends.

A higher fat diet with a moderate amount of protein will suffice.

While I’m not advocating for a keto diet specifically, the closer you get to a keto diet, the more your adrenals will love you.

Protein is great as well, but protein can be broken down into glucose through gluconeogenesis and that can be a tax to your adrenals.

Some foods that are great for your adrenals include:

  • Fatty cuts of red meat
  • Fish
  • Coconut oil
  • Beans
  • Lentils
  • All Vegetables
  • Most fresh fruits (not dried and pre-packaged.. Also limit to 1-2 pieces per day)
  • Butter and full fat dairy
  • Beverages

One of the biggest nutrient deficiencies in America is dehydration.

Water is a nutrient and it may be the most important nutrient we consume.

Standard water consumption recommendations are typically calculated by taking your body weight and dividing by 2. This is the amount of water you want to drink in ounces.

Of course, this is also bioindividual. However, err on the side of drinking more water.

Failure to drink enough water leads to dehydration and dehydration is a stress.

It weakens the body in many different ways and the adrenals are called upon to keep us strong.

To avoid calling on the adrenals then you need to stay adequately hydrated.

This also means avoiding, or cutting back on diuretic beverages like:

  • Soda (even club soda)
  • Fruit juices (even juiced from fresh fruits and veggies add a hefty dose of sugar)
  • Coffee (sorry)
  • Tea
  • Alcohol (double sorry)

Every diuretic beverage actually uses water from your body to process it through the kidneys.

Not to mention many beverages like soda, fruit juices, and alcohol are loaded with sugar and you know what that leads to —-> CORTISOL!

If you do drink one of these diuretic beverages you want to add 12-16 ounces of water to your daily total for every 8 ounces of diuretic.


There are a number of vitamins and minerals you want to have a lot of in your diet to optimize your adrenals.

Nutrients that will help heal your adrenals include:

  • B Vitamins
  • Vitamin C
  • Chromium
  • Manganese
  • Potassium
  • Good fats will also be very beneficial to your adrenals because fatty acids help build your prostaglandin pathways which control your inflammation.

Inflammation is one of the biggest contributors to stress and certainly tax the adrenals.


Daily movement is also going to be very beneficial to your adrenal health.

Anything from light to moderate exercise helps to relieve stress. These workouts can include:

  • Weightlifting
  • Running
  • Walking
  • Yoga
  • Workout classes
  • Playing sports

Intense exercise can be a little more taxing on the adrenals.

I would not discourage anyone from pushing themselves in any athletic endeavor, however, the body can see regular intense exercise as a stress.

Some people’s body’s even release insulin during high intensity workouts or competitions.

Be mindful of your body’s abilities when exercising.

Do You Really Have The Flu?

Because I’m not a doctor I have to always advise you to consult your physician when it comes to diagnosing illness.

But, what I do at hope you’ve taken from this article is that many of the symptoms that you may assume means the flu, may not be the flu at all.

It’s easy in our modern world to feel run down. This run down feeling is your body actually telling you to slow down and treat it right.

Even if it is the flu, your body still needs you to stop and relax.

Even after all the trillions of dollars that have gone into healthcare, rest, relaxation, and a low sugar diet are still the only proven medical ways to overcome the flu.

I want to believe the big business combined with government is good.  I really do.. but they make it oh so difficult.

In 2019 mobile telecom companies like At&T and Verizon are rolling out their 5G wireless service to 19 different cities around the country.  There is also a push for it in the EU.

5G will present a much more powerful mobile signal than you currently get with the 4G service available now.

This powerful signal will give you faster download speeds on your mobile devices, connect to smart devices in your home, and oh ya.. PORN!

The more I learn about 5G, the more I’m convinced it’s absolutely the wrong thing to do for sustaining life on this planet.


5G is a huge step up from 4G and even 4G LTE.

In terms of waveforms, the 5G waves are smaller and heavier, but they are more numerous and more relentless.

Current mobile waveforms transported between devices and transmitters come in around 1-3Ghz, 5G will deliver signals anywhere between 24-90Ghz.

What do those numbers mean?

The Active Denial System used by the US military delivers frequencies at 95Ghz and is used to disperse crowds by delivering a shot of waves meant to irritate your entire body.

People in the targeted crowd can’t take the heat and mental effects and then disperse.

The Active Denial System is considered a biological weapon and is only 5Ghz more than what people will be holding up to the sides of their heads.


Any radiation and exposure to EMF can be considered dangerous.  The biggest problem with 5G is that it hasn’t even been proven to be safe.  There are no independant, non-industry funded studies that show any level of safety for exposed humans


Because of the heavieness and density of the 5G waves more towers and antennas will be required.

This could very well mean a tower or antannea every 2-10 houses.

As compared to 4G and 3G towers that can be easily hidden and covered up along the sides of buildings, 5G towers are bulkier and will be harder to hide which many neighborhood associations are fighting back against due to the unsightliness of the towers.

Looks aside, these towers are quite powerful and with many of them within such a short distance you have to wonder what the human effects will be.


In October 2018 there was a report of over 100 Startling birds being found dead in Huigenspark in the Netherlands.

Nearby there also just so happen to be a test of a 5G tower to connect to a nearby rail line.

This story was not reported in any mainstream US news outlets but did circulate around social media and alternative news sites.


By all indications, 5G is a go.

There are 19 cities already planned on being 5G compliant by the end of 2019 with more cities looking to be added into 2020.

Cities projected to have 5G include Houston, Jacksonville, Louisville, New Orleans, San Antonio, Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Raleigh, Waco Tx, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.


It’s easy to get excited about 5G.

As we’ve become more mobile in the last 20 years, we’ve demanded higher speeds to power our devices.

1st there were cell phones, then smartphones, then Iphones, then tablets, and now EVERYTHING!

The real impact of 5G will be felt in the “Internet of Things”.  A world where everything is connected to the internet, including your car, refrigerator, baby monitors, and oh ya.. PORN!

What shocks me most about the internet of things is people’s hesitation in asking why?

Why does your fridge need to be connected to the internet?  Why would you ever want your baby monitor or apnea monitor connected to the internet?

I get the fantasy of being able to jump in your car and have your emails, calanders, and news read to you by some creepy Alexa GPS stalker lady who’s now your second brain.. but really is it worth the risk?

A lot of indsutries will be able to capatilize on the new faster, more fobust 5G services to make their products more integrated and appealing.

But nobody is asking the big question if we really need it?


I don’t know if the “Iphone effect” is a real saying, but I’m going to use it because it explains my point.

Did we know we needed an iphone before we had an iphone?

I remember a time not too long ago where I didn’t have an iphone and I didn’t even know I needed one.

I used maps that I printed from mapquest, or actual real maps.  I waited til I got home to check email and that was never a problem.

If I had a thought typically it would marinate in my brain for a bit, I’d have a chuckle and maybe tell someone when I saw them later.

If I had a question that I didn’t know the answer I’d just leave it up to the universe to present the answer at some later time.

But now that I have my iphone I could never imagine going back to that place, despite the fact that I lived perfectly well.

The same thing applies to the “Internet of Things”.

I can’t believe there is going to be a time when I will tell my kids all about the good ole days when I’d go to the refrigerator and there wasn’t Twitter above the ice maker.


5G radiation’s biggest impacts will be felt years from now when we look back and realize that we are the experiement.

I personally have used all the big wireless services available in America (T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon) and it would take a bag of money and the ID of who killed Kennedy for me to even begin to think about trusting that they give a crap about my safety.

Here is a sampling of reasons why you should worry about 5G radiation:

  1. RF5G will drastically increase radio frequency and EMF exposure beyond anything close to what humans have been exposed to in the past.
  2. There are no clinical trials proving that 5G is safe.
  3. The SAR- Standard Absoption Rate, which is a calculation used to measure the body’s ability to withstand RF radiation has not been updated since 1996.
  4. The current SAR was set using animal trials against wireless technology in the 1980’s.
  5. EMF radiation is currently a class 2B carcingoen.
  6. Many scientists believe there is enough evidence to classify EMF radiation as a class 1 carcinogen.
  7. George Carlo, Chief Scientist of the CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association), and director of the Wireless Technology Research Project in 1999, sent letters to the main heads of the wireless industry on October 7, 1999, reiterating that the WTR’s research had found the following: “The risk of rare neuro-epithelial tumors on the outside of the brain was more than doubled…in cell phone users”; there was an apparent “correlation between brain tumors occurring on the right side of the head and the use of the phone on the right side of the head”; and “the ability of radiation from a phone’s antenna to cause functional genetic damage [was] definitely positive….” – THIS WAS 1999!
  8. Henry Lai, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Washington analyzed 326 EMF safety-related studies conducted between 1990 and 2005 and found that 67% of independantly funded showed a biological reaction from cell phone use.
  9. 180 scientists from 35 countries recommend a moratorium on the roll-out of 5G “until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independant from the industry”.
  10. 5G layering on top of 2G, 3G, and 4G presents even more problems.
  11. 5G requires more cell towers and antennas every 2-10 buildings to effectively distribute the signal.  This means more people exposed to closer signal sources.

  12. Telecom industries are lobbying to strip your rights from being able to say no to cell antennas on your buildings.
  13. The “Electromagnetic Fields Exclusion”: “The Electromagnetic Fields Exclusion (Exclusion 32) is a General Insurance Exclusion and is applied across the market as standard. The purpose of the exclusion is to exclude cover for illnesses caused by continuous long-term non-ionising radiation exposure i.e. through mobile phone usage.”

Cancer doesn’t grow in a day and even if it did, the big telecom wigs would find a way to make sure we didn’t think it was 5G.

Sorry vegans, keto’s, carnivores, vegetarians, paleo’s, Atkins, Zoners, South Beachers, and all of you in between.  The perfect diet is as tangible health goal as finding Big Foot’s senior prom pictures.  (but that hair tho!)

Dieting these days is a meme.  It’s a social media dick measuring contest.  It’s a never-ending carousel of pictures of flat bellies, food, and doing deadlifts.

Dieting is becoming as toxic of a discussion as religion and politics.

Remember when we used to have a rule that said you couldn’t discuss religion and politics around the dinner table.  Now add to that your trendy diet that holds as much scientific scrutiny as Jesus walking on water or Russia hacking our elections.  (I’m holding myself back on this one)

The problem is that there are now countless books and “experts” in each diet concentration and they all make fairly valid points.

The next time someone tells you about a new study that came out or they quote you a trial out of their Paleo book, keep in mind that most nutrition studies can be scrutinized, even when held to the highest scientific standard.  Randomized, controlled trials.

Every Nutrition Study Is Flawed

When someone says that the vegan diet has proven to reverse heart disease, this simply isn’t true.  The vegan or vegetarian diet in combination with lifestyle factors such as quitting smoking, stress, exercise, and community have shown to reverse heart disease.

No study exists that holds all of these other factors constant with a large group of people who are all of the same fasting blood glucose, blood pressure, and stress level.

There are plenty of 90+-year-olds who have never lived a day in their life without eating some sort of animal product and are doing just fine.

There are also plenty of junk-food vegans out there who will quote you word-for-word every line of Cowspiracy with a “Go Vegan” sweatshirt on barely keeping their muffin top all together.

On the other side, you’ll look all around at the keto movement and the only science that supports eating nothing but bacon, butter, and bunless cheeseburgers are rat and mouse studies.

Unless you live under a New York City subway track, there’s little scientific proof that this diet is actually a long-term diet solution.

Trust Your Gut

So when you’re trying to figure out which works best, you just have to stop, take a breath, and remember that none of these people are you.

You are an individual and you have a very different biochemistry than all of these people trying to tell you which diet is best for you.

You come with a very specific formula and the only way to figure out which diet is best for you is through your own experimentation.

While the vegans will tell you that every egg you eat is like smoking a bunch of cigarettes, most people can live a long healthy life eating multiple eggs a day and surprisingly multiple cigarettes.

Don’t be afraid of eggs.  Eat them and see what happens.

However, don’t smoke. It’s stupid and has been shown to cause disease (not in everyone though).

Eat a steak, or a cheeseburger and see what happens.

Eat a stalk of kale or some quinoa and see what happens.

Chances are you’re not going to have a heart attack, nor shorten your lifespan.


But connect to your body and feel what happens inside.  Do these foods make you gassy or nauseous?

If you have a bad reaction to a food that means it’s no good.  Your body is actually telling you to stay away.

Plenty of people eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and have these kinds of reactions.  Plenty of people are allergic to nuts and seeds.

But also, plenty of people eat chicken and get bloated and never put it together.

Everyone is different.  This is called Bioinduviduality.

I don’t know if the word “bio-individuality” is a household word yet, but it will single-handedly cripple the crash diet market.

If people connected to their bodies more, there’d be no need to sell people on diets, because people would know what works best for them.

Unfortunately, that’s asking a lot and I know most people aren’t up for it.

Other Ingredients

Know what other ingredients are being used alongside these foods.

No matter what study you look at there is a good chance that it doesn’t take this factor into consideration.

Ingredients like canola oil can totally wreck whatever it is your eating because it rancidifies at a very low heat point and creates toxicity in your body.

Also added sugar is in almost everything now and pretty much everyone agrees that is bad. (except for the one guy in What The Health)

I, myself have been at both ends of the spectrum at one time or another.  I was a vegan who thought I couldn’t do any wrong, and I ditched it to eat bacon every day.

Neither side was necessarily bad, because I have a lot of other positive lifestyle factors that keep my health optimized.

At the same time, I believe in balance.  I can be plant-based while eating an animal. I don’t want to tell myself I can’t eat something because it’s bad.  I might as well say I can’t curse because it’s bad.  Let’s just take that whole idea of “bad” versus “good” out of our vocabulary.

The stress alone of trying to find the perfect diet will make you fat, long before a pad of butter.

Holistic A-Hole 1st Blog

Hello world!

That’s the default blog post you get with every WordPress install. However, I believe it does aptly describe my thoughts about what to write about in this first blog post. I’ve been mulling over whether to start a blog in the first place for a while. I do weekly podcasts, videos and regularly find my way into social media arguments. So do I really need another medium to tackle? The long and short answer is both YES!

The fact is this site is more than just a blog, it’s a culmination of everything Holistic A-Hole. Over the last few years I’ve fallen headfirst into this world of health and in the last year specifically, I’ve been fortunate enough to work towards becoming a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and I’ll have the official certification next month.

As I’ve learned more about health, especially in studying anatomy and physiology Im astounded at how much incorrect health information is available to people, how many charlatans are making money off of incorrect health info, and how many actual DOCTORS are pushing this wrong info.

More than anything I empathize with you, dear reader, future A-Hole, who has to try and sift through this nonsense while trying to understand multiple sides of these health debates that are all somehow backed by real science. Real science that is many times funded and manipulated by giant corporations who sell food, supplements, and pharmaceuticals.

So really, is it any surprise that Americans spend the most money in the world on healthcare (and it isn’t even close), yet we’re near the bottom in overall health?

How can we be healthy when we’ve got obesity, crash diets, a mental health crisis, pharmaceutical lobbyists, doctors who know nothing about nutrition, a health insurance cartel, industry-funded science, and a mainstream media whose job is to push it all on you with clickbait headlines?

This is not to say there aren’t people out there doing good work. In fact, nothing has motivated me more than the functional health and integrative health movements that are becoming more accepted. These fields believe that the body is capable of healing itself through diet, lifestyle, and self-care. I whole-heartedly believe this. While people are stressing about which Obamacare plan will bankrupt them first and running to the nearest pharmacy to get their flu shot, I’m sitting back using all that money I saved on things I love to do while not getting the flu in 10 years… which was, coincidentally the last time I got the flu shot.

So this is who I am and what I am about. This blog will be my life for a long time. I want to bring you the best and most accurate info I can in the most brutally honest way I can. There are a lot of health bloggers out there that believe in being kind and gentle, I don’t buy into that method at all. I believe we’re on the cusp of a major health catastrophe, and as far as I’m concerned, the future of humanity hangs in the balance. – re: Pottenger’s Cats. If the fear of you or your children, or your children’s children not being able to live a long healthy life doesn’t motivate you to part of the solution, than you will be part of the problem.
